As you travel to Nungwi, you’ll see the local fish markets where seafood is being auctioned off. There, you can get a glimpse of the fresh catches that have just been brought in. The ruins of an old Portuguese settlement are located near the ruins of an ancient Zanzibar city. The Portuguese conquest of Zanzibar in 1497 was a significant event in the history of the island, and the guide will discuss the reasons behind it.

A visit to the blacksmith is fascinating; the tools used to build dhows are still made in the traditional manner. Dhows are still built on the construction site in the same way they have for centuries, with skilled craftsmen bending wood to create the dhows.

There, we see turtles who have been sick and are being nursed back to health before being released into the ocean. The villagers here cook their meals over an open fire, and it’s a picturesque scene, with mothers wrapped in colorful kangas cooking over the flames.

The children here are carefree and happy, playing in the streets and around the houses. After a morning of exploring Nungwi, take an optional lunch at one of the town’s many restaurants before walking down to the beach for some sunbathing and swimming.
