Zanzibar Mangapwani Caves
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Mohammed Bin Nassor Al-Alwi founded the Mangapwani Slave Chambers in 1880. These structures are still standing, and are a reminder of the history of slavery in East Africa.

The region is located about two kilometers from the ocean, and it is surrounded by a variety of native plants, including breadfruit trees, rambutan trees, and perfume shrubs. When slavery was abolished in 1873, it was a major step in the fight against slave trafficking.

This freed many captured slaves and allowed them to be sold to other countries. The Slave Chamber served as a place to hide human cargo while they waited to be disposed of between 1880 and 1905.
